Berlando suffers from sickle cell disease. When he is not having a crisis, he is cheerful, playful, and has a great sense of humor. He enjoys being the center of your attention, and likes to play with you. He is very witty and intelligent. He has his favorite care givers, and is loyal to them in his affection.
When he is having a sickle cell episode, he typically refuses food or water, and must then have an IV. The majority of the pain seems to be concentrated in his legs, so he is given a massage, if he allows it, and his legs kept warm. This seems to help.
Berlando had some developmental delays because of his health, but is walking and is more independent than ever before. Berlando would benefit from a family with a stay-at-home parent, to help manage his sickle cell and provide the consistency he needs. |
